Self Care
If you are a Legally Blonde movie lover, you will know the famous scene from the below picture.
We all know that feeling after a good workout! You can be feeling absolutely rubbish and everything your partner is saying grates you. You feel snappy but after that workout you feel on top of the world (minus the aches and pains!).
Keeping fit is both physically and mentally beneficial and can lead to a healthier and happier life.
Although, fitness is a great form of self-care, avoid unhealthy habits like over training, overthinking your weight and looking at exercise as a chore that you have to get done.
If you pick up unhealthy habits, fitness can become bad for your mental health rather than being used as a form of self-care.
Self care in fitness tips:
Focus on healthy goals – focus on feeling strong, becoming healthier, lowering cholesterol etc rather than hitting a number on the scales.
Fuel your body – ensure you are getting enough protein, water, fruit/veg ect. Extreme calorie deficit diets are not a healthy long-term fix.
Get enough sleep – why not try staying off your phone 2 hours before bed and dimming the lights. A bath with lavender soak and a camomile tea.
Recovery time – we become very goal focused and ignore when our body needs rest. Make sure you are making time to recover and listening to your body to avoid burn out.
Have fun – don’t like weightlifting or running but love hiking….go for a hike! Try a new class you think looks exciting.
Community – build a community of likeminded people you can work out with. That friend who also has a love for music and wants to get fit. Why not workout and then go for a coffee to discuss music.
